Character Age: 30
Background: Wiki link!
Personality: To most people, Shell Overlord is cold and collected. He keeps others at a distance and frequently tries his best to ensure that he is on top of any social situation... or at least, that's the image he tries to project. In reality, Shell is a person who finds himself unable to express his true feelings due to the society he was born into. Underneath that cold persona, Shell is a bubbly and excitable young man who just wants to be accepted for who he really is. However, the pressure to be a proper vampire on top of his own insecurities and fears prevent him from being honest with himself and others.
Unlike most vampires, Shell has what is called an "abnormal personality". He doesn't enjoy dominating humans or imposing his will over them as other vampires do, instead preferring a more gentle approach. For example, when it was discovered that blood had been stolen from the Blood Bank reserves, rather than immediately dole out punishment for the human who caught the mistake, Shell insisted on finding the truth behind the theft. He was reluctant to use his pheromones to force the truth out of the humans, and even insisted on not punishing the one responsible. Even though he can't be openly friendly or affectionate with other humans, he still tries his best to avoid causing them harm whenever possible.
But being an abnormal extends further than just his general personality. Coming from a society that puts a lot of focus on sex, for a vampire to wish to be sexually dominated by those beneath them is considered the ultimate taboo, and vampires who prefer humans are considered the worst of the bunch. Shell worries constantly about having his secret come out, and keeps up his false persona of a strong, calculated Overlord to keep others from discovering the truth.
Abnormal personality aside, many of Shell's feelings with regards to humans stem from guilt. When Shell was a child, he was often taken care of by a human named Ellie, his father's human Art (a type of human slave). Shell adored Ellie, and from that point on, found himself becoming more enamored with humans. He found it difficult to drink their blood, and even at times wishing he wasn't a vampire. In One, he found an opportunity to alleviate that guilt by allowing a human to dominate him instead, essentially using physical pain to counteract the emotional pain he's dealt with his whole life. This also shows how self-destructive Shell can be, ignoring his own health and happiness and allowing himself to be hurt, physically and emotionally. When One assaults Shell in his office, even when someone comes by to ask if everything is okay, Shell still sends them away. In that moment, he is more worried about making sure One and his secret are kept safe than his own well-being.
But Ellie had an impact on more than just Shell's love for humans. When Ellie ran away in the middle of the night, Shell felt abandoned. This would be the start of Shell's issues with abandonment, which is a key theme both in his life and throughout the series. Shell is terrified of having the important people in his life leave him. As a result, he makes sure not to do anything that would make them dislike him, such as hiding the fact that he's an abnormal from his best friend Reign, lying about how he feels about humans to his father, or even simply spoiling them with gifts and affection. This is also very present in his relationship with One, where Shell is seemingly always in a struggle to keep One by his side. Shell even goes so far as to say that he wouldn't mind being hurt if it meant he could stay by One's side.
Still, despite his kindness, Shell can be very selfish, and has a bad habit of not thinking about how his actions might inconvenience others. He revealed himself to be an abnormal on two different occasions, at neither point taking into consideration how this might affect One, given his connection to Shell. Prior to that, he frequently called One to his office during One's work hours, knowing it was inconveniencing him. Although this is a habit he's begun to grow out of, ultimately, it's a flaw he isn't going to overcome overnight.
Powers/Abilities: Shell is a vampire, and has a handful of powers associated with this!
- Pheromones: A natural ability held by vampires to control others through their unique scent. As an Overlord, Shell's pheromones are among the most powerful, capable of paralyzing an entire room of humans out of sheer terror. It can be used to manipulate others into telling the truth or bend them to the user's will. While most effective on humans, they can be used against other vampires as well.
- Enhanced night vision: Vampires can see clearly in the dark, even in near-total absence of light.
- Immunity to cold: As a species that evolved during an age of cold and darkness, Shell is able to withstand temperatures much colder than a human could stand without even shivering. Conversely, he doesn't handle warm or hot temperatures very well.
Power Nerfs (if applicable): Shell's pheromones will only work about 75% of the time, with varying degrees of effectiveness and with OOC permission only. I'll leave it up to individual players whether they'll work on characters who are neither human nor vampire.
Inventory: Nothing but the clothes on his back.
Incentives: He only wants to see his human lover, One, again.
